The lower levels of the home contain the public spaces with each one seemingly flowing into the next. Strict barriers between the rooms are done away with to promote greater interaction between the various zones and family members as well.
Designed by Herbst Architects as a dedicated holiday home that is only used in summers the lovely structure in stone and wood is open to the rugged landscape outside. With two covered platforms that hold the outdoor dining area barbecue corner and a relaxing lounge the emphasis here is firmly on the captivating views outside.
Comprising three volumes of varying heights clad in different materials the captivating residence draws you in instantly. While the main volume is covered in lovely cumaru wood planks the one next to it is draped in smart white quartz stone. The third unit surprises you with a glittering metallic armor in diamond-shaped corten steel panels!
Almost all the details of the house were crafted locally by artisans and the materials were kept as eco-friendly as possible. Reclaimed decor and accessories vintage additions and lovely artwork add to the air of authenticity while track lighting inspired by an old sprinkler system elegantly illuminates the interior.
In a city where a 300-square-foot hotel room would be considered spacious this 2000-square-foot loft on Bowery is like a dream come true and is surprisingly about the same price per night as a room at a nice nearby hotel. With its 14-foot-high ceilings hand-selected art and a great room featuring a chef’s kitchen the only problem is that you might end up spending more time staying in than out on the town.
The open plan living area contains the dining room a distinct concrete fireplace a beautiful kitchen with open shelves and of course a large living zone. The addition of huge windows brings in ample natural ventilation while principles of ‘adaptive reuse’ employed throughout the home make use of every available resource.
Located on a lot of and surrounded by plenty of greenery the project aims to create a quiet serene natural oasis that drowns out the noise and the pollution of the big city around it. The innovative ‘treehouse’ is actually built on a column crafted using galvanized steel and its design ensures that the existing greenery is left largely undisturbed while providing the owners with a comfortable residence. With a cantilevered design the house enjoys a perfect vantage point to take in the sights and sounds around it and its wooden interior offers wonderful insulation.
