Our choices in home design are often influenced by nostalgia the neighborhood that we grew up and live in and of course the architects and artists who touched our lives. Having spent most of their lives in New York in a period when ‘loft renovations with distinct industrial style’ were the hip trend this retired couple wanted a similar residence in Oregon.
A major part of the charming renovation involved the complete makeover of the rear of the warehouse which saw the removal of an existing shed to clear out some space for a private courtyard. This space not only offers a small quiet retreat for the residents but also enlivens the ground floor study by bringing in a flood of natural light.
Decor choices also reflect the intent of the architects to create a timeless space that fuses modern ergonomics with a more classic design. But it is not just the aesthetics that influenced this choice of a stripped-down industrial look as the homeowners also wanted an energy-efficient home with plenty of natural ventilation and smart green credentials.
A white brick wall with a two-sided fireplace stands as a curious focal point in the contemporary setting while a sleek staircase with floating wooden steps leads to the top level with private quarters. A fabulous use of accent colors curated decor additions interesting finishes and ample natural ventilation combine to transform this residence into an exceptional showstopper.
The lower level of the house contains the living space multiple workstations and a gorgeous kitchen with a versatile island at its heart. With two bedrooms and bathrooms the focus here is firmly on making the best use of the available space while ensuring that one room flows into another effortlessly. Thanks to the large glass windows the outdoors become a part of the interior even as the neutral color scheme lets pops of curated red shine through.
