A major part of the charming renovation involved the complete makeover of the rear of the warehouse which saw the removal of an existing shed to clear out some space for a private courtyard. This space not only offers a small quiet retreat for the residents but also enlivens the ground floor study by bringing in a flood of natural light.
A small dining area in the corner with Eames Molded Plastic Chairs in white and a kitchen visually connected with the landscape outside complete the lower level. A large wooden deck outside offers a cool sitting area that allows the homeowners to enjoy the relaxed ambiance while their favorite blues tunes stream out of the house.
Even though the color palette used to create the backdrop in each room is largely neutral bright pops of color jump out to add a fun element of surprise. The result is a living space that steals the show with its individuality and inimitable personality!
Of course turning an old mill clad in stone into a modern holiday home with understated minimal style does take some work and it is precisely here that WT Architecture stepped in. Transforming the discarded mill into a stylish hub the architects turned to an insulated timber building that was “slotted into the stone structure”.
Designed by Herbst Architects as a dedicated holiday home that is only used in summers the lovely structure in stone and wood is open to the rugged landscape outside. With two covered platforms that hold the outdoor dining area barbecue corner and a relaxing lounge the emphasis here is firmly on the captivating views outside.
