Minimal in its own comfortable way the Madison Residence has an aura that is both rustic and modern at the same time. With ample space to entertain guests and host weekend parties the house can quickly transform into a hub of activity and endless fun when needed. With the deft use of bookcases floating shelves and wall-mounted cabinets an air of spaciousness defines this lovely Kansas City home.
Even though the color palette used to create the backdrop in each room is largely neutral bright pops of color jump out to add a fun element of surprise. The result is a living space that steals the show with its individuality and inimitable personality!
The nifty idea results in a home that pays rich tribute to the heritage of the existing mill while turning the interior into a modern retreat. The original stone walls were reinforced and restored carefully while the glittering new addition in wood acts as a room-within-a-room and even ends up creating a glazed clerestory! Pine boards and polished concrete define the new floors while construction-grade spruce plywood ends up adding warmth to the walls.
A major part of the charming renovation involved the complete makeover of the rear of the warehouse which saw the removal of an existing shed to clear out some space for a private courtyard. This space not only offers a small quiet retreat for the residents but also enlivens the ground floor study by bringing in a flood of natural light.
Designed by Mckimm the house boasts a structure and a stripped-down interior that are both defined by concrete and steel. Yet the clever use of American oak along with other materials such as marble and stone give the home an intriguing and inviting ambiance.
Aluminum composite panels cover one side of the exterior creating a beautiful visual that seems to change depending on the intensity of the light outside. While each only offers of space everything seems cleverly organized to make the most of every inch on offer. The steel base provides additional storage space and the planet-friendly homes do the best they can to combine contemporary aesthetics with green goodness.
The elegant forest house has a distinctly contemporary appeal and even though the exterior is draped in black the interior presents a contrasting white picture. A large living area with a smart mezzanine level is at the heart of the residence with minimal decor and warm wooden surfaces adding character and personality to the setting.
